Floods

Rising water that submerges normally dry land.

Floods are the most common disaster across Indonesia — from urban flash floods to slow-rising river floods. They can damage homes, contaminate water, and isolate communities.

Warning Signs

  • Official warnings from BNPB or local BPBD

Preparation

  • Store valuables and electronics on upper floors or high shelves
  • Prepare waterproof bags for documents and medication
  • Know your evacuation route and nearest shelter
  • Keep clean drinking water reserves

Emergency Response

  • Switch off electricity and gas before evacuating
  • Never walk or drive through moving floodwater
  • Boil drinking water — flood water is contaminated
  • Report missing or trapped people to local authorities
