Severe weather includes thunderstorms, lightning, hail, waterspouts, and damaging winds. Indonesia faces increasingly frequent extreme weather driven by climate change.

Warning Signs

  • Sudden drop in temperature and pressure
  • Dark, towering cumulonimbus clouds
  • BMKG severe weather warnings

Preparation

  • Trim trees and secure loose outdoor items
  • Identify safe interior rooms away from windows
  • Charge phones and power banks when warnings issue
  • Keep flashlight and battery radio accessible

Emergency Response

  • Move indoors and stay away from windows
  • Avoid using landline phones or showers during lightning
  • Do not shelter under isolated trees outdoors
  • After the storm, watch for downed power lines and debris
